L’OPERA L’opera “Soul of the Wall_Cevo”,vera e propria fusione poetica tra pittura e fenomeni percettivi, è contemporaneamente omaggio alla memoria storica e collettiva di Cevo ed elaborata riflessione sulla tragicità della guerra. Collegati tramite diagonali opposte che si sviluppano dal basso verso l’alto dell’edificio, formando un’armonica e bilanciatacomposizione a fiamma, i soggetti figurativi legati al vissuto dell’edificio e alla storia del Comune emergonodalle macchie di fuliggine ricreate con maestria da Eron per evocare l’incendio del 3 luglio 1944. In quella data il paese venne bruciato per rappresaglia contro i partigiani: 151 case vennero totalmente distrutte, altre 48 rovinate, 12 saccheggiate, e furono uccise 6 persone. Su una popolazione di circa 1200 abitanti furono in 800 a rimanere senza un tetto. Nella grande scena possiamo scorgere in primo piano il volto evanescente di Maddalena Bazzana, detta semplicemente «Nena», la maestra che insegnò in quella scuola e che fu tra le prime donne anpraticare l’alpinismo a Cevo. Alle sue spalle compaiono tre scene struggenticollegate alle vicende della Resistenza – cui proprio a Cevo è dedicato un museo – e della Grande Guerra qui chiamata «Guerra Bianca» perché combattuta in quota, tra le nevi perenni dei ghiacciai: suo padre, il maestro Bartolomeo Cesare Bazzana, guida autorevole della comunità e partigiano, colto nell’istante drammatico del controllo documenti, l’ultimo abbraccio tra un soldato e la sua donna, e ancora la scalata al fronte dell’alpino. Sono proprio queste situazioni che anticipano i momenti più cruenti delle battaglie e gli stati d’animo che emanano a creare la tensione che porta chi osserva “Soul of the wall_Cevo”a riflettere/interrogarsi sul non senso/senso delle guerre. Le colombe che volano e fuggono dall’oscurità dell’incendio, in tutta la loro valenza simbolica e vitalità, appaiono allora come naturale risposta alla questione che l’opera pone, come il messaggio di pace che Eron intende lanciare dalla parete dell’ex scuola di un piccolo comune che ha conosciuto da vicino la devastazione della guerra. “Soul of the Wall_Cevo”,appartiene all’omonima serie di interventi realizzati dall’artista in varie città del mondo. Interventi che, prendendo spunto dal fenomeno percettivo della pareidolìa(la facoltà congenita e automatica nell’uomo a trovare e ricostruire strutture ordinate e forme familiari in immagini sfuggenti e disordinate), sembrano far trasudare dalle pareti le figure di chi le ha abitate e frequentate.

Italian artist Eron, one of the most interesting and appreciated members of the urban and contemporary art scene at international level, has just painted a new piece of his series ‘Soul of the Wall’ on the façade of the former school building in Cevo, Camonica Valley. Created to commemorate the history of the village, as well as to bear witness to the tragic nature of war, the mural is the poetic fusion between painting and optical illusions inspired by the perceptual phenomenon known as pareidolia (the human tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern). The ghostly figures of those who lived and worked inside the building emerge through the soot stains depicted by the artist, who created a balanced composition that evokes the fire occurred in Cevo on 3 July 1944. On that day, the small town was almost destroyed by an arson committed in retaliation for partisan activities. In the foreground is the evanescent face of Maddalena Bazzana, who worked as a teacher in that school. Behind her, poignant scenes related to the events of the Resistance and the Great War come to life: teacher Bartolomeo Cesare Bazzana (her father), an authoritative leader of the community and a partisan, is portrayed during a tragic document check; on the right, a soldier is holding his lover for the last time, whilst a lone Alpino soldier is climbing to the front line. These touching scenes are filled with tension, as not only do they show the moments that come before the absolute horror of armed conflicts, they also open the way to an understanding of the meaning and consequences of war. With their vibrancy and their symbolic value, the white doves that fly and flee from the darkness left behind by the fire appear as the answer to the question raised by the mural: they are the message of peace that ERON sends from a village that knows the brutality of war all too well.
